ICONE 50 for Italfoto Archive

ICONE 50 for Italfoto Archive

In the 1950s, under the impetus of the development of science and technology, an irreversible transformation began.
The digitization of information and the globalization of markets determine the entry of the Contemporary Era into the last phase of evolution at a fast pace.
The first decades of the new millennium marked the beginning of a new era, the Virtual one. In this artistic project, the transformation of the images contained in Italfoto ArchiveTM, made with different techniques, depending on the artist involved, offers multiple points of view that are aesthetically compatible with the present, the past, and (we believe) with the future.
Miriam Colognesi’s attention focus on the process of transformation of photographs.
She reflects on how digitizing images allows archiving and cataloging an immense amount of data, making them immaterial, separating them from the manual process from which they originated.
The pictorial interventions on digital printing tend to contextualize the images within the “ICONS ‘50” project by restoring them to their original physical state.
